Purpose of the Job:

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Assistant Vice President-Medical Billing to join our administrative office. In this position, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation, and sound judgment. As our leader of the Medical Billing Department, your daily duties will include maintaining billing software, appealing denied claims, and recording late payments. In addition, we are looking for an AVP of Medical Billing which can help facilitate a strategy for clients regarding Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance, MCOs etc. in addition to understanding or having some experience in grant billing/fee for service billing for various states and predominantly the state of Illinois.

To succeed in this role, you must possess in-depth knowledge of billing software and medical insurance policies. The ideal candidate must also be able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, as communicating with clients and various insurance agents will form a large part of the job.

Basic Function: Strong background in medical billing, with the skills necessary to improve our current billing procedures and reduce A/R days. The successful applicant will work on a number of tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation and exercising judgement within the appropriate scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and lead Billing Department staff, provide training/coaching as necessary, and determine work schedules and work responsibilities.
  2. Resolve difficult patient billing and insurance issues by working with billing staff.
  3. Completing Eligibility Verifications and educating clients about coverage.
  4. Posting charges and completion of claims to payers in a timely fashion.
  5. Convert services to billable units. Submit billing data to insurance providers.
  6. Work claims and claim denials to ensure maximum reimbursement for services provided.
  7. Experience with billing Medicaid is a plus.
  8. Create billing for other contracted services.
  9. Perform billing reviews and audits.
  10. Implement, maintain, and report on financials for programs.
  11. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR).
  12. Strong knowledge of working with insurance companies.
  13. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  14. Able to multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  15. Excellent problem-solving skills.

Knowledge and Skills:

Requirements:
Apart from having the required qualifications, there are few skills or abilities which are required for being a medical biller. Proficiency in the following areas is must:
  • Able to effectively provide direction and lead people.
  • Should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Should have a good knowledge of insurance guidelines as well as schemes like HMO/PPO, other payer requirements, and systems.
  • Must be familiar with CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and the latest coding guidelines.
  • Should possess good communication skills and must be able to handle and resolve issues of insurance payers.
  • Should have a problem-solving aptitude and be ready to work on resolving discrepancies.
  • Should have a sound knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree required (Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related).
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Medical Biller.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/management experience in medical billing.
  • Solid understanding of billing software and electronic medical records.
